Are your goals exciting you?
July 17, 2024
Hello dear friends,
I'm nearly seven months into this self-employment adventure. If you’d told me a year ago I’d be starting my own business, I would have laughed it off as a wild idea. But when life turns upside-down, sometimes you have no choice but to change course… Now I’m on my path and discovering new ways to support people (read on to learn more about my offerings!).
One of my biggest dreams about starting this business was allowing myself more flexibility and focus for my family and pursuits outside of work. In the spring, I committed to running my first-ever 10k.
However, I took a new approach to setting this goal. In the past, my running goals were very rigid and outcome-focused. I would set ambitious pace goals, and if I missed them, even by a second, I would deem it a failure.
This time, my goal was to finish the 10k and have fun doing it. Instead of finding an intense workout playlist for my training runs, I listened to engaging audiobooks and tried my best to zone out. Instead of feeling like a chore and just another thing on my endless to-do list, training felt enjoyable, and I was excited to get outside in the morning.
And look, I made it to the finish line with a smile.
Are your goals bringing you joy?
As I reflect on my journey, I encourage you to reflect on yours—are your goals exciting you? Are you experiencing joy as you work toward them?
Setting goals that truly light you up is key to staying motivated and fulfilled. Whether your aspirations are personal, professional, or a mix of both, they should energize and inspire you. Of course, we will still experience setbacks, but the energy of enjoyment supports us to move past them with more ease.
And gosh, with the state of the world these days, if our own goals aren’t bringing us joy, then what’s the point?
Do you need some support setting goals that excite you? Let’s find a time to chat.
Warmly,
MH
